SANS Lab Addition

Construction of a 2-storey addition (Small Angle Neutron Scattering Addition for Nanostructured Materials. between existing Nuclear Reactor building and existing Nuclear Research building (3,700 sq.ft.). Chilled water lines (supply/return) installed for regulating nuclear reactor. Access to the adjacent, owner-occupied Nuclear Reactor was restricted to those with security clearance (Federally regulated), and all work there had to be scheduled in advance. The infill construction site is located in a small area on a busy University campus, and required approx. 22m of caissons to create a permanent shoring wall.

IAHS Simulation Hospital Ren­o­va­tions

Interior upgrade (with select demolition) to 3 levels of teaching hospital in existing and occupied building. Renovations included: Flooring, drywall, painting, millwork, doors, windows, washroom upgrades, electrical, and mechanical. Project was completed in 3 phases to accommodate for class / student schedules. All adjacent areas were owner-occupied during the renovation.

Mac­Don­ald Hall Ren­o­va­tions

Re-purposing of a historical 3-storey + basement 72,000 sq.ft. student residence (circa 1903) into office, classroom, administrative and support spaces for the College of Business and Economics. Targeted LEED Silver certification.  BAS system for HVAC, lighting, security, fire, IT. New communications duct bank installed in basement tunnel. Required the installation of helical anchors to the existing building’s foundation. Included Type 3 Asbestos removal.


Library Resource Cen­tre Ren­o­va­tions
Owner: Con­estoga Col­lege
Con­sul­tant: MMMC Archi­tects
Project Value: $1.8M

Interior renovations (with select demolition) to library and adjoining central public corridor (33,900 sq.ft.).  Phased construction to allow for continual occupancy. Renovations included: flooring, drywall, painting, millwork, doors, windows, electrical, and mechanical. Project was completed in 2 phases. The biggest project challenge was keeping all corridors open to students and staff for the duration of the project.

Ath­let­ics Cen­tre Expan­sion

Renovations/expansion of existing 2-storey student fitness centre (22,605 sq.ft.).  Fitness centre expansion includes creating 2nd floor adjacent to existing mechanical penthouse accessed by 2 stairwells and elevator. The building footprint expands to include new multi-storey entry and expanded ground floor/second floor area. The remainder of the ground floor renovated with new finishes. Site work includes revisions to campus walkways and landscaping. Surrounding areas were occupied at time of construction by students and staff.


Mar­itime – South Res­i­dence Inte­rior Improve­ments

Large Ani­mal Iso­la­tion Unit

New construction of an animal hospital.  Complete with 13 stalls and office space.  9,000 sq.ft. pre-engineered building.  Site work includes new parking lot, cement walkways, landscaping and animal enclosures. Upgrades to pedestrian service tunnel to connect communications, electrical, mechanical services from OVC to LAIU.

New construction of a 2-storey research facility; a 16,500 sq.ft. structural steel building with masonry/curtain wall façade.  Complete with various laboratories, offices, boardrooms, virtual presentation room and loading dock. Site work includes paving, concrete walks and landscaping. Installation of the Limnotron – the world’s largest aquatic mesocosm facility.
